White Eagle Elementary Science Fair
Guidelines & Ideas
Where do I start?
Science fairs provide opportunities for kids to creatively explore an area that interests them—to do science themselves!
Depending on grade level, we encourage slightly different types of projects. A Display Project is great for smaller graders. A display project would explain or show an area of science. Students in higher grades are encouraged to ask and hopefully answer questions in their work.
Thinking of your science fair project can be fun and challenging. First, think of an area that interests you or that you are curious about. Think of a problem you would like to solve in that area.
-
form a hypothesis
-
run your experiment
-
collect data
-
form a conclusion.
Example:
· Five senses
o Which of the 5 senses is used most?
· Oil and water density project
o Which one has high density?
· Solar system
o How high is Venus in thenight sky?
· Dinosaurs
o Why did dinosaurs get so big in the Jurassic Period but then smaller during the Cretaceous?
· Model of digestive system
o How long does it take for food to go through the digestive system?
· Vinegar and baking soda volcano
o What is the limiting reactant in the vinegar and baking soda volcano?
Need Help Choosing a Topic?
When it comes to choosing a topic the sky is the limit! The best topics come from your own curiosity about how something works, or why something is the way that it is. But, if you have trouble thinking of something on your own - look for BOOKS!
- Visit the White Eagle website and click on "LMC Book Search" to see what books the White Eagle library has to support your scientific question.
- Talk to Mrs. Viera in the LMC for science books by Janice Cleave and others.
- Visit your local public library and look for book on elementary school science projects.
